My Journey Through Podcasting â A Field Report

Getting Started: Getting Started in Podcasting

Today I would like to give you an insight into my experiences with podcasting. For many years, my team and I have been firmly anchored in this world. It all started with a simple attempt to start a podcast. At that time there were quite a few technical hurdles: the sound was lousy, there were problems with the room reverb, and the sound technology was a real challenge. That was a few years ago, and the technical requirements were anything but easy to cope with at the time. We had to invest considerably more than you have to do today, from headphones to microphones.

Our first project: The "German Design Podcast"

Against all odds, my good friend and colleague Jordi and I started our first podcast project. Our goal was to make a big podcast about design. Since this is our common profession – we are both involved in design and marketing – we wanted to talk about various design topics and invite exciting guests, including well-known personalities from the design scene. The podcast was to bear the prestigious name "German Design Podcast". But already during the conception process, we realized that we had loaded ourselves with an enormous amount of pressure. We planned and planned, but somehow the project did not get off the ground. This experience taught us that you shouldn't plan too much, but just get started.

A Turning Point: The Success of "Project Dependent"

After this frustrating phase, we ventured back into a podcast project called "Project Dependent". This podcast has been very successful for several years and has given us a lot of pleasure. Here, too, everything revolves around design topics. We had interesting guests, including greats from the design scene and even a few celebrities. Over time, we mastered the technical challenges and were finally able to offer a clear and great sound. We created our own jingles and clips, which made the podcast even more entertaining.

New terrain: The project "Planned"

Our latest project is called ¢¢Âânplanned¢Ââ and it has been running since 2024. I'm doing this podcast together with my friend and colleague Dennis. Unlike our previous podcasts, this one is no longer about design. Instead, we focus on professions and everyday situations in a wide variety of professions. This is about funny, bizarre, bizarre and emotional moments in everyday working life. The episodes are short and sweet, and as the title suggests, everything is unplanned. This podcast is a lot of fun for us.

Conclusion: Tips for aspiring podcasters

As a conclusion, I can say: If any of you are planning a podcast or would like to start it, the technical conditions are much easier today than a few years ago. Hardware, such as microphones, has become cheaper, and uploading to platforms like Spotify and Apple is relatively easy. You don't have to have studied rocket science for this. It is absolutely advisable to do it, and I highly recommend it to everyone. If you feel like a podcast, think a bit about it, design a good concept. Quality is important, both the content and the quality of the language. But don't get too heady. The important thing is to get things on the road. Just do it before someone else does. So, grab the microphones and have fun!
